The Wisconsin Badgers ended the 1999-2000 regular season with a record of 16-12. To make the NCAA Tournament Dick Bennett's squad knew it would have to make a run in the Big Ten Tournament and that's exactly what they did. Wins over Northwestern and #22 ranked Purdue were enough to get the Badgers into March Madness as the 8th seed in the West Region.
A win over the 9th seed Fresno State setup a showdown with 1 seed Arizona with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line. Powered by a stingy defense that held the Wildcats to 23 first half points, the Badgers claimed the upset of the tournament, 66-59! Wins over 4 seed LSU and conference rival Purdue put Wisconsin in the Final Four for the 2nd time in school history.
"That year was pretty special. For the basketball program to have that level of success and then to see what's happened since then, that's something I've always taken great pride in." -Mark Vershaw, Junior Forward.
