Rick Majerus' Utah Utes entered the '96-97 season ranked inside the Top 10 where they would stay for the entire season. After going 26-3 during the regular season and winning the WAC Tournament, Utah earned the #2 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament.
Keith Van Horn, Andre Miller and company would make short work of their first two opponents Navy and Charlotte to claim a spot in the Sweet 16. The Utes squeaked by Stanford in OT setting up a showdown in the Elite 8 with #1 Kentucky.
Utah would fall to the Wildcats, 72-59, ending one of the most storied careers in school history. Van Horn would finish his career as a two time All-American and 3 time WAC Player of the Year.
"For being 6-9, I guess I'm better than average. I'm not a great athlete, but I do have some gifts." -Van Horn
