John Chaney's Temple Owls entered the 1992-1993 season with a young yet loaded roster and hopes of an NCAA Tournament bid. Led by the trio of Aaron McKie, Eddie Jones and Rick Brunson the Owls finished the regular season 15-11 heading into the A-10 Conference Tournament and firmly sitting on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
Two wins over West Virginia and Saint Joe's helped Temple's cause significantly before a loss to UMass in the championship game. Selection Sunday saw Temple rewarded with the #7 seed in the West Region.
Temple beat #10 Missouri and then Cinderella Santa Clara to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16 and a matchup with the #3 seed Vanderbilt. The Owls found themselves down by 3 at half before going on a 15-3 run and cruising to a 67-59 victory and trip to the Elite 8.
The only thing standing in front of Temple and the Final Four was Michigan and the Fab 5. Despite a near triple double from Brunson, Michigan held on to win, 77-72.
"I've been a coach a long time, and I've had a lot of rides. But these young men gave me perhaps one of the most memorable rides I've ever had. For perhaps only the second or third time of my life, I had 11 guys who really liked each other."
