Before he was "Dr. J" in the NBA he was Julius Erving at UMass. Erving put up incredible numbers during his 2 years at UMass, finishing with career averages of 26ppg and 20rpg while leading the team to back to back NIT appearances before turning pro.
"We couldn't play varsity basketball our freshman year, so I had my sophomore and junior years. A lot was done during that time. My thing and Jack Leaman's thing was, whatever level you establish yourself at, maintain a consistency. If you can be consistent, good things will happen, so I always just tried to be Mr. Consistency. If I had a game with less than 20 rebounds, I felt like I was having an off night. The points kind of took care of themselves. We had guys who liked to shoot and since they were maybe 45-percent shooters, that meant 55 percent of the time they were missing. Rebounds were there to be had." -Dr. J
