Syracuse entered the 1995-1996 season unranked and under the national radar.  That didn't last long as the Orange rattled off 11 straight wins and climbing all the way to #12 in the polls.  Powered by future NBA Lottery pick, John Wallace the 'Cuse finished 12-6 in the vaunted Big East and 24-8 heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Syracuse earned the 4th seed in the West Region where they defeated Montana State and Drexel by double digits to reach the Sweet 16.  Two thrillers versus #8 Georgia and #2 Kansas put Syracuse in the Final Four for the first time since 1987.

An 8 point victory over Mississippi State setup a showdown with a Kentucky Wildcats team dubbed "The Untouchables".  UK had 10 players on their roster that would appear in the NBA at some point in time.  They're depth and Wallace fouling out proved to be too much to overcome as the Orange fell 76-67.  Even though they fell one win short of their ultimate goal no one can ever dispute that in 1996 the 'Cuse was definitely in the house!

"It's a special connection being part of a group like that that found a singular purpose, and it's something you feel for the rest of your life. In 2003, I felt like we won it. I bleed Orange so much. We built that camaraderie. We all loved each other. There were teams that were more talented but I don't think there is any that was more cohesive." -John Wallace, Syracuse '96
