The 2006-2007 Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team entered the season with lofty expectations and rightfully so. Coached by Thad Matta, the Buckeyes brought in the #1 recruiting class in the nation, convincing Greg Oden, Mike Conley Jr., and Daequan Cook to spend their college years in Columbus.
Few freshmen classes have accomplished what the OSU trio was able to in just one year. The Buckeyes went 27-3 during the regular season, winning the regular season Big Ten championship before dominating the Big Ten Tournament for another title.
Oden won Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors and was named to the All-Big Ten First Team. The team earned a 1-seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament. OSU beat Central Connecticut State and Xavier to reach the Sweet 16 where Tennessee jumped all over the Buckeyes early, leading by 17 at half.
A comeback for the ages saved Ohio State's season as they outscored the Vols 53-35 in the 2nd half to win, 85-84. A rout of Memphis put the Buckeyes in the Final Four for the first time since 1999.
A win over Georgetown setup a showdown with the defending national champions, Florida. In a hard fought game, the Gators proved to be too much down the stretch securing their 2nd national title, 84-75.
