Kansas Jayhawks x Legacy Collection
SLAM’s Legacy Collection dives inside the archives to bring back some college basketball classics. Like the originals, we crafted each Legacy pair of retro shorts with the materials and details to honor the original designs. It was a labor of love in our pursuit to provide an era specific keepsake that celebrates the most iconic styles in college basketball history.
'91 Jayhawk Legacy
Roy Williams' 1990-1991 team entered the season unranked and the under the national radar. That didn't last as the Jayhawks went 21-7 in the regular season and 10-4 in the Big 8 finishing the season ranked #12 in the AP Poll.
That earned them a #3 seed in the Southeast Region of the NCAA Tournament. Led by Terry Brown, Adonis Jordan and Mark Randall, KU made it to the Sweet 16 after beating New Orleans and Pittsburgh.
Two easy wins over #2 Indiana, and #1 Arkansas put Kansas in the Final Four. Awaiting them was Dean Smith, Eric Montross and #1 North Carolina. UNC entered the game as a heavy favorite.
Mark Randall, "Everybody was predicting all kinds of scores. Dick Vitale wasn't giving us a chance. We took it all personally. It gave us motivation." A 79-73 win proved the naysayers wrong and put Kansas in the National Championship game where they would lose a hard fought game to Duke, 72-65.
