Fresno State Bulldogs 1997-1998 Retro Shorts (Home)

Jerry Tarkanian's Fresno State Bulldogs entered the 1997-1998 season ranked #13 in the pre-season AP Poll. The Bulldogs were loaded with NBA talent in Terrance Roberson, Tremaine Fowlkes and Chris Herren. But the newcomer getting the most attention was Rafer "Skip to My Lou" Alston.
Born in NYC, Skip was a playground legend by the time he arrived at Fresno State. The legend grew as Rafer was featured on the cover of SLAM Magazines '97-98 College Preview issue under the headline "The Best Point Guard in the World (you've never heard of)."
Unfortunately for Tark, his team had an early season losing streak that dropped them from the rankings and eventually out of the NCAA Tournament. Fresno State finished the regular season 18-11 and accepted a bid to the NIT where they made it to the Final Four.
