The first four days of the NCAA Tournament in 1981 were marked by upsets and buzzer-beaters. But by the time the 1981 Final Four in Philadelphia rolled around, the national powers had emerged. Indiana, North Carolina, Virginia and LSU were all in search of a National Championship. In the end it was Bob Knight's Hoosier defeating Dean Smith's Tar Heels, 63-50.
