The 1986-87 Xavier Musketeers basketball team were led by high scoring junior Byron Larkin's 25 points per game. The Musketeers got into the NCAA Tournament by winning the MCC Tournament with wins over Butler, Loyola and Saint Louis earning them a #13 seed in the Midwest.
Once there, head coach Pete Gillen and Larkin's 29 points, delivered Xavier University its first ever NCAA Tournament win by beating #4 seed Missouri 70-69.
