Bob Knight's Texas Tech Red Raiders entered the 2004-2005 season looking to build on the previous years NCAA Tournament appearance. After going 20-10 in the regular season Texas Tech earned the #6 seed in the Albuquerque Region of the NCAA Tournament.
After an easy win over #11 UCLA in the First Round, the Red Raiders ran up against Adam Morrison and #3 seed Gonzaga. After trailing by 9 at half Texas Tech used a strong 2nd half and a big Ronald Ross 3 pointer to pull off the upset, 71-69 and punching their ticket to the Sweet 16.
Ross, a former walk-on earned praise from his Hall of Fame coach.
"He's an all time example to kids as to what they can do with what they have. I've never had a player that I would have had more admiration for than Ronald Ross- particularly when he hit that 3."
