Texas Longhorns 1996-1997 Retro Shorts (Away)
The Runnin' Horns entered the '96-97 season ranked 16th in the AP Poll. Led by senior guard Reggie Freeman's averages of 22 points and 8 rebounds a game the Longhorns finished the regular season 16-11 and squarely on the "bubble" heading into Selection Sunday.
After squeaking into the NCAA Tournament as the #10 seed in the East Region, Texas knocked off #7 Wisconsin, 71-58, and #15 seed Coppin State, 82-81, to earn a trip to the Sweet 16. The Cinderella run would end there in a 78-63 defeat to #6 seed Louisville.
