The Purdue Boilermakers entered the 1997-1998 season with a Top 10 preseason record and high hopes. Gene Keady's squad was balanced with 5 players averaging double figures led by seniors Chad Austin and Brad Miller who both averaged 17ppg.
Purdue finished the regular season 24-6 and climbing as high as number 5 in the AP Poll. That was good enough to earn the #2 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament.
The Boilermakers made it to the Sweet 16 after defeating Delaware and Detroit Mercy before falling to #3 seed Stanford in the regional semifinal.
