Auburn Tigers 1998-1999 Retro Shorts (Away)

Cliff Ellis' Auburn Tigers entered the '98-99 season unranked and as a bit of an unknown. That didn't last long as AU rolled to an eye catching 17-0 start on their way to a 26-2 regular season finish. The Tigers won the SEC regular season title with a 14-2 record and entered the NCAA Tournament as the #1 seed in the South Region.
While Chris Porter was named SEC Player of the Year after averaging 16 points and 9 rebounds a game, but the Tigers were deep with 3 other players averaging double figures while Mamadou N'Diaye held down the paint. Cruising past Winthrop and beating Oklahoma State by 7 put Auburn in the Sweet 16 against #4 seed Ohio State where their remarkable season would end.
"We were phenomenal in the way we beat people. It is perhaps the best team that Auburn has ever had because we were so dominant." -Cliff Ellis, Head Coach
