SLAM’s Legacy Collection dives inside the archives to bring back some college basketball classics. Like the originals, we crafted each Legacy pair of retro shorts with the materials and details to honor the original designs. It was a labor of love in our pursuit to provide an era specific keepsake that celebrates the most iconic styles in college basketball history.
Nolan Richardson's Razorbacks entered the 1993-1994 season ranked #3 in the AP Poll. Corliss Williamson, Corey Beck, Scotty Thurman and crew would spend 9 weeks ranked #1 in the country as they went 25-3 during the regular season and won the SEC regular season title. That was enough to earn the #1 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament.
Arkansas dispatched of Georgetown, Tulsa, and #3 seed Michigan to advance to the Final Four for the 2nd time in Richardson's tenure. After beating #2 seed Arizona they faced a showdown in the National Championship game against Grant HIll, Coach K and Duke. An instant classic ensued.
With a minute left and the game tied 70-70, Dwight Stewart found Scotty Thurman on the right wing for a title clinching rainbow 3 over the outstretched arm of Antonio Lang. The shot cemented Richardson's "40 Minutes of Hell" style in NCAA Tournament history.
"Dwight Stewart made the most unselfish play in our program's history. I get the accolades and the recognition of making the shot, but had he not bobbled the ball he probably would have taken it. He probably would have made it, too." -Scotty Thurman, Arkansas Forward
