Recovering from a slow start, Bob Knight, Ray Tolbert, Isiah Thomas and the 1980-81 Indiana Hoosiers hit their stride in February en route to their second consecutive Big Ten championship.
The Hoosiers were hardly tested in the NCAA Tournament beating each team they faced by double digits. That included a championship game win against Dean Smith and North Carolina. The win gave Indiana University its 4th National Championship and Bob Knight his 2nd.
“The chance to play in something of that magnitude, especially for a kid from Indiana, was a dream and here we were doing it. Plus, it was against North Carolina and Dean Smith and their great tradition as well as that with Knight and Indiana...That was just a magical stretch."-Randy Wittman
