Billy Donovan's 2005-2006 Florida Gators entered the season under the radar and unranked.  With a very young core of rising stars the Gators touch the college basketball world by storm winning their first 17 games, including wins over #19 Wake Forest and #16 Syracuse.

A late season sputter didn't derail Joakim Noah, Al Horford and Corey Brewer as they found their way through the SEC Tournament and beat South Carolina in the final, 49-47.

An SEC Tournament Championship and overall record of 27-6 was good enough to get the Gators the #3 seed in the Minneapolis Region of the NCAA Tournament.  Florida cruised into the Sweet 16 after beating South Alabama and Milwaukee by 26 and 22 points, respectively.

The regional semifinal against #7 Georgetown would prove to be Florida's toughest test.  A defensive battle from the opening tip, UF was able to squeak by 57-53.  No other team would get within single digits of the Gators.

A 13 point win over #1 seed Villanova, a 15 point win over #11 seed George Mason and a dominating 16 point win over #2 seed UCLA gave Florida their first basketball national championship.

"It was a very unselfish group, great length.  We could do a lot of different things.  It was an unbelievable year." -Billy Donovan
